Another flawless read with this second novel, set once again in the world of the Thaumas sisters and Highmoor.
Erin A. Craig’s writing is simply magical; she draws you in from the very first pages and makes it impossible to put the book down – it’s almost an obsession!!!
I absolutely loved this world that the author continues to explore, the atmosphere she creates, and the realism of certain images she conjures up before our eyes. And then there’s the world-building – I really have to applaud her imagination; every little detail has been carefully thought out for each of the peoples she introduces to us. It’s frankly brilliant.
As for Verity, I could have given her a big hug. She’s the sort of heroine I’m fond of: strong yet fragile, intelligent, thoughtful, with a logical mind – despite that special ability of hers – and I don’t think we know everything about her yet. Given the book’s ending, I reckon the author is keeping something up her sleeve.
I can’t wait to dive into the third book!
And Alexander is just as endearing a character. A hero in a wheelchair isn’t all that common, but you quickly forget his disability. He’s a kind, gentle, affectionate man, and even though the author sometimes makes us doubt him – as she does with all the characters who revolve around Verity – you can’t help but love him.
What makes this story so special is the challenge of distinguishing truth from fiction, reality from hallucination – but are they really hallucinations?
An absolute must-read!!!!!
Perfect for this time of year and for Halloween.
